- The reasons for the lack of Firefox on iPhone and iPad (iOS)
Monday, 11 March 2013
Jay Sullivan, one of the vice-presidents of Mozilla, gave the reasons why Firefox was not available on iOS devices, like the iPhone or iPad. It relies mainly on the inability of third-party publishers to use their own rendering engine.
At SXSW conference, a vice-president of Mozilla, Jay Sullivan, told his audience that he would not for the moment Firefox browser on iOS devices. As reported by CNET, it puts this fact on account of the attitude unaccomodating Apple to publishers alternative browsers.
Apple forces them to actually use one of the renderers Safari. In addition, it does not allow them to use the best of these renderers, namely ultra-fast Nitro JavaScript. They must use slower e UIWebView. This obviously gives a big advantage to the browser home Apple competition.
It is thus that Jay Sullivan justifies the absence of the Firefox iOS platform. He argues that these restrictions prevent Mozilla browser propose a performance. In such a configuration, the foundation prefers to abstain out an application that is not compatible with their quality standards and in which it can not integrate its own rendering engine. From our side, we find it somewhat strange reasoning. If want to offer the best possible user experience is a commendable attitude, it is still worth noting that we find among the third-party browsers on iOS devices some Google Chrome. Performance of the latter are also quite honorable. Finally, the lack of Firefox iOS Apple does not hamper, but Mozilla is depriving a large market for its browser.
